Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a strain of the species severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (SARSr-CoV). It belongs to the family Coronaviridae which are a family of enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses. SARS-CoV-2 likely originated from a bat coronavirus, to which is has a close genetic similarity. A highly contagious disease in humans, transmission occurs via liquid droplets from coughs or sneezes in a range of around 2 metres. SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
