GATA3 binds 3 sites in the proximal 400 bp of the IL5 promoter (Schwenger et al. 2001, Ahlfors et al. 2010, Upadhyaya et al. 2011, Kanhere et al. 2012, inferred from mouse homologs in Siegel et al. 1995, Zhang et al. 1997, Lee et al. 1998, Zhang et al. 1998, Horiuchi et al. 2011, Wei et al. 2011, Sasaki et al. 2013). Only about 20% of Th2 cells express IL5 and these appear to be more highly differentiated and have a higher level of GATA3 bound to the IL5 promoter (Upadhyaya et al. 2011).
