Dengue virions bind ligands of its envelope (E) protein. Heparin binds with high affinity to the E protein (Yang et al., 2024). Heparin-pretreated hepatocytes of five cell lines showed different susceptibility for dengue virus infection (Lin et al., 2002). Domperidone, an approved dopamine receptor antagonist (Barone, 1999), binds Dengue E protein and reduces Dengue infection in hepatocytes by inhibiting viral RNA replication. All four Dengue serotypes were susceptible (Kaewjiw et al., 2025).
