DENV envelope (E) protein binds to T-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia protein 1 (TAL1). TAL1 normally localizes to the nucleus but in DENV-infected leukemia cells it co-immunoprecipitated with DENV E protein, associating with it at punctate structures in the cytosol. This could potentially affect the availability of free TAL1 and impede the process of megakaryopoiesis. This result was obtained from experiments with the Dengue serotype-2 (DENV-2) P23085 strain (Banerjee et al., 2020).
