In human Huh-7 cells infected with DENV2 (strain 16681), DENV NS1 interacts with the large ribosomal subunit protein eL18 (RPL18). Silencing RPL18 in these cells significantly reduces viral translation, replication, and viral yield. The requirement of RPL18 for viral translation/replication was also confirmed in monkey Vero cells using a DENV4 replicon, suggesting that RPL18 is required during the DENV replicative cycle (Cervantes-Salazar et al., 2015).
