Subunits of the base of the 19S regulatory particle (19S RP) of the 26S proteasome, PSMC2 and PSMC1, which are orthologs of yeast Rpt1 and Rpt2, respectively, form a dimer (reviewed in Tomko and Hochstrasser 2013). Direct association of endogenous human PSMC1 (Rpt2) and PSMC2 (Rpt1) was demonstrated in the human embryonic kidney cell line HEK293T, and confirmed in vitro by using recombinant human proteins (Kaneko et al. 2009).
