Phosphorylation of integrin alpha5 (ITGA5) and Connexin 43 (Cx43, GJA1) by AKT1 enhances their mutual association and the enhances the opening of the GJA1 hemichannel (inferred from mouse homologs). Mechanical stimulus activates the fibronectin-binding activity of integrin alpha5:integrin beta1 (ITGA5:ITGB1), though interaction of ITGA5:ITGB1 with extracellular fibronectin is not required for opening of GJA1 hemichannels (inferred from mouse homologs).
