SOX2, POU5F1, NANOG, and SMAD2,3 bind the promoter of the ZEB2 (SIP1) gene about 6 kb upstream of the initiation codon of the ZEB2 coding region (Chng et al. 2010). Whereas POU5F1 and NANOG repress expression of ZEB2, SOX2 enhances expression (Chng et al. 2010). SMAD2,3 are activated by NODAL and repress expression of ZEB2 (Chng et al. 2010). ZEB2 directly activates several genes expressed in neuroectoderm (Chng et al. 2010).
