WNT11 is expressed by the nephric duct and GDNF is produced by the metanephric mesenchyme (inferred from mouse homologs). They reciprocally regulate each other to produce balanced signaling that matches production of ureteric epithelium with metanephric mesenchyme during formation of the ureteric bud (inferred from mouse homologs).
