Sonic hedgehog (SHH) is expressed during in vitro differentiation of human notochord cells (Diaz-Hernandez et al. 2020). In the notochord, SHH is activated by FOXA1 and FOXA2 (inferred from mouse homologs). SHH secreted by the notochord patterns adjacent tissue, including floor plate, somitocoele, and neural tube (inferred from mouse homologs).
