Based on mouse studies, NPAS4 directly stimulates expression of the CDK5R1 gene, encoding p35, a neuronal activator of CDK5 (Yun et al. 2013). In rat primary neurons, Cdk5r1 gene transcription is significantly upregulated upon Npas4 activation (Brigidi et al. 2019).
