L1 and RanBPM interact with one another and the N-terminus of RanBPM was sufficient for the interaction with L1. RanBPM interacts with RAN, a Ras-like small GTPase that functions as a carrier in nuclear-cytoplasmic exchange. It directly interacts with Sos to activate Ras and induce ERK phosphorylation. RanBPM might function as an adaptor to mediate L1-induced ERK activation.
