H2O2 diffuses from the mitochondrial matrix to the cytosol
Hydrogen peroxide is released from mitochondria at a rate that is dependent on the membrane potential (Boveris et al. 2006). Release of hydrogen peroxide from heart mitochondria is about 0.42 nmol/min/mg protein (Valdez and Boveris 2007).
