No cysteine auxotrophs of
Mycobacterium tuberculosis
are known. This suggests redundant pathways for sulfur uptake and cysteine biosynthesis. Indeed, there is full interconversion between taken up sulfate/sulfide, cysteine, and methionine via cystathionine. (Schnell and Schneider, 2010)
