The cysteine biosynthetic pathway using the intermediate O-acetylserine is well preserved among bacteria, and it is also the main pathway in M. tuberculosis in normal medium. It depends on a six electron reduction of sulfite to sulfide (Bhave et al, 2007; Pinto et al, 2007).
