Expression of Gsc in definitive endoderm
During gastrulation Goosecoid (Gsc) is expressed at the anterior end of the primitive streak (Blum et al. 1992) then in the foregut endoderm (Belo et al. 1998). Mixl1 binds two elements in the upstream promoter of the Gsc gene and activates transcription (Lim et al. 2009). In mouse embryonic stem cells, expression of Gsc responds to high concentrations of Activin/Nodal signaling and this is dependent on Fgf signaling but not Wnt signaling (Hansson et al. 2009).
