Expression of Bmp4 in lateral plate mesoderm

The Bmp4 gene is transcribed to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield Bmp4 protein. In lateral plate mesoderm, expression of Bmp4 is activated by Foxf1 (Astorga and Carlsson 2007) and then maintained by Gata4, which binds the Bmp4 promoter and is also a target of Foxf1 (Nemer and Nemer 2003, Rojas et al. 2005).
