Ano2 dimer:Ca2+ translocates Cl- from the cytosol to the extracellular region

Each monomer of the Ano2 dimer contains a pore that translocates chloride ions according to the concentration gradient from the cytosol to the extracellular region (Pifferi et al. 2009, Stephan et al. 2009, Sagheddu et al. 2010, Cenedese et al. 2012, Ponissery Saidu et al. 2013, Betto et al. 2014, Cruz-Rangel et al. 2015, Pietra et al. 2016, Pifferi 2017, Tak et al. 2019). Binding of calcium ions to sites in a transmembrane helix of each monomer increases the permeability of the pore to chloride ions (Pifferi et al. 2009, Stephan et al. 2009, Sagheddu et al. 2010, Betto et al. 2014, Tak et al. 2019).
