Csnk1a1 binds Smo dimer
Csnk1a1 binds the Smo C-terminal tail after Shh stimulation as an early step in Smo activation. Csnk1a1-mediated phosphorylation of serine residues in the S0 and S1 motifs enhances binding of both Csnk1a1 and Adrbk1/Grk2 to the C-terminal tail of Smo, increasing its phosphorylation of the and promoting an open, active conformation of the tail (Chen et al, 2010; Chen et al, 2011).
