After formation of the beta-delta core, gamma-sarcoglycan (SGCG) is recruited through interaction with SGCD. Following this, the more loosely associated alpha subunit SGCA is recruited (Shi et al, 2004; reviewed in Tarakci and Berger, 2016; Bhat et al, 2018).
In smooth muscle tissue, SGCD and SGCA are replaced by SGCZ and SGCE, respectively (Wheeler et al, 2002; Ettinger et al, 1997; reviewed in Bhat et al, 2018).
