PSME3 (PA28gamma) forms a homoheptamer (PA28gamma homoheptamer) that serves as an alternative regulatory particle (RP) of the 20S core particle (20S CP) of the proteasome. The structure and stoichiometry of the human PA28gamma homoheptamer was determined from the density map of PA28 proteasomes isolated from human embryonic kidney cell line HEK293T (Zhao et al. 2022)
