Binding of the second heme to the MT-CYB subunit of intermediate I of the cytochrome b assembly process triggers the additional insertion of the UQCRB and UQCRQ subunits, subsequently releasing the chaperone complex UQCC1:UQCC2:UQCC5:UQCC6 (Guo et al., 2017; reviewed in Ndi et al., 2018; Zara et al., 2022). This assembly step is inferred from its equivalent in yeast.
