Both HSF1 and ATF5 bind the promoter of the HSPA9 gene (mt-HSP70 gene) after unfolded proteins accumulate in the mitochondrial matrix (Sutandy et al. 2023, the presence of HSF1 at the HSPA9 promoter is also inferred from mouse homologs in Katiyar et al. 2020).
