During the response to unfolded proteins in mitochondria (mtUPR), FOXO3 that is activated by deacetylation translocates to the nucleus and activates expression of the manganese-type superoxide dismutase gene (SOD2 gene, MnSOD gene) (Papa and Germain 2014). FOXO3 may bind the promoter of the SOD2 gene, but this has not been assayed during mtUPR.
