NOTCH gene expression is upregulated downstream of NPM1-ALK in a manner that depends on the binding of phosphorylated STAT3 to its promoter (Larose et al, 2021). NOTCH expression contributes to cellular proliferation in NPM1-ALK cells, and reduction in NOTCH1 activity through either inhibition with gamma secretase or knockdown with short hairpin RNAs promotes apoptosis (Larose et al, 2021).
