TWIST is aberrantly upregulated downstream of NPM-ALK in a manner that depends on phosphorylated STAT3; this expression is specific to cancer cell lines as it is not observed in corresponding WT cells (Zhang et al, 2012; Inoue et al, 2017). NPM-ALK may induce TWIST expression through phosphorylated AKT and NF-KB (Inoue et al, 2017). TWIST expression contributes to the invasiveness of NPM-ALK+ ALCL SUP-M2 and SU-DHL-1 cell lines (Zhang et al, 2012).
