Either EHMT2 (also called G9a) or EHMT1 (also called GLP) can trimethylate lysine-16 of ATF7IP (inferred from mouse homologs in Tsusaka et al. 2018). Lysine-16 of ATF7IP is located in a domain that mimics lysine-9 of histone H3, which is also methylated by EHMT2 and EHMT1. Trimethylation of ATF7IP is required for interaction of ATF7IP with MPHOSPH8 (MPP8) of the HUSH complex (inferred from mouse homologs in Tsusaka et al. 2018).
