After attachment, the ribonucleocapsid of the human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) A , the virus enters the host cell through release of the ribonucleocapsid into the cytosol. RSV entry into the host cell by direct fusion of the viral membrane and the plasma membrane is a route consistent with the established entry of the family Paramyxoviridae, closely related to the RSV's Pneumoviridae family, and is supported by studies that showed RSV host cell entry to be pH-independent and insensitive to lysosome acidification (Srinivasakumar et al. 1991; Kahn et al. 1999).
