The mitochondrial form of FASTK binds several sites in the 3' UTR of the MT-ND6 mRNA and precursors of the MT-ND6 mRNA and prevents degradation of the RNAs by the degradosome (SUPV3L1:PNPT1) (Jourdain et al. 2015). Absence of FASTK results in much lower levels of MT-ND6 mRNA and reduced activity of the NADH dehydrogenase complex (Jourdain et al. 2015).
