The TFAP2A:TFAP2C heterodimer binds the PAX7 gene and activates expression (inferred from chicken homologs in Rothstein and Simoes-Costa 2020). POU5F1 (OCT4) and SOX2 also bind near the PAX7 gene (inferred from chicken homologs in Hovland et al. 2022). SOX2 and TFAP2A may interact. MYB binds an enhancer upstream of PAX7 which activates expression in the neural plate border but not in somites (mesoderm) (inferred from chicken homologs in Vadasz et al. 2013).
