Stimulation of WNT signaling in human embryonic stem cells activates expression of PAX7 via beta-catenin (CTNNB1) early (3 days) in the differentiation process (Leung et al. 2016). The TFAP2A:TFAP2C dimer, SOX2, POU5F1 (OCT4), and MYB bind the PAX7 gene and activate its expression in the neural plate border (inferred from chicken homologs). BMP4 (Leung et al. 2016) and FGF4 (inferred from chicken homologs) also activate PAX7 in the neural plate border.
