PKR (EIF2AK2) is modified by ISG15 ligase complex on lysine residues 69 and 159, which activates PKR by dimerization and autophosphorylation, leading to down-regulation of protein translation without the necessity of RNA binding to PKR (Okomura et al, 2013).
