PKR (EIF2AK2) is primarily localized in the cytoplasm. The small fraction in the nucleus increases when PKR is activated by dimerization and phosphorylation (Jimenez-Garcia et al, 1993; Jeffrey et al, 1995; Besse et al, 1998; Bergeron et al, 2000; Tian and Mathews 2001; Blalock et al, 2011; Blalock et al, 2014; Qiao et al, 2021).
