Mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS, IPS-1) acts as an adaptor linking RIG-I (also known as retinoic acid-inducible gene I protein RIG-1 or DExD/H-box helicase 58, DDX58) and MDA5 (IFIH1) to downstream molecules that activate TBK1 and IKKi (Kawai et al, 2005; Seth et al, 2005).
