PCDH19 is strongly expressed in the developing nephric duct (inferred from the mouse homolog in Gaitan and Bouchard 2006, Boualia et al. 2013). LHX11 (also called LIM1) activates expression of PCDH19, which is completely lost in mice homozygous null for Lhx1 (Boualia et al. 2013). A direct interaction between Lhx1 and the Pcdh19 gene was not detected in mice (Boualia et al. 2013). PCDH19 is a protocadherin that interacts with CDH2 (N-cadherin) to provide cell-cell adhesion (Emond et al. 2011).
