Palmitoylation of prepro-fusion protein F0 of human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) on Cys-550 probably occurs during transport to the Golgi network as the responsible enzymes are localized in the Golgi membrane. The fatty acid is linked to cysteine via the thioester moiety. This modification does not affect F oligomerization and its significance is unknown (Arumugham et al, 1989).
