SOX17 binds the gene encoding Podoplanin (PDPN) and activates its expression during the differentiation of human primordial germ cells (PGCs) from embryonic stem cells in vitro (Tang et al. 2022). PDPN protein, expressed in the plasma membrane, mediates cell adhesion and migration (reviewed in Dang et al. 2014).
