SOX17 and TFAP2C bind the promoter of the PR domain-containing zinc finger protein 1 gene (PRDM1, also called BLIMP1) and activate expression of PRDM1 in PGCs in vitro (Kojima et al. 2015, Tang et al. 2022). PRDM1 generally acts as a repressor of transcription.
