Expression of transcription factor AP-2 gamma (TFAP2C) is initially activated by BMP4 signaling (Kojima et al. 2017) and expression of SOX17 is initially activated by WNT signaling acting via Eomesoderm (EOMES) (Chen et al. 2017, Kojima et al. 2017). After the initial activations, SOX17 and TFAP2C together bind a large number of genetic loci including TFAP2C itself (Tang et al. 2022). SOX17 and TFAP2C maintain expression of TFAP2C during subsequent differentiation of PGCs (Tang et al. 2022)
