During differentiation of human primordial germ cells from embryonic stem cells in vitro, SOX17 and TFAP2C bind and activate transcription of the CBFA2T2 gene (Tang et al. 2022). In mice, Cbfa2t2 encodes a corepressor that interacts with Pou5f1 (Oct4) and Prdm1 and is required for differentiation of germ cells (Nady et al. 2015, Tu et al. .2016).
