MITF-M binds to an E-box site at position -609 in the promoter of the MLANA gene to upregulate expression as assessed by ChIP, EMSA, reporter gene assay and Northern analysis (Du et al, 2003; Strub et al, 2011; reviewed in Cheli et al, 2010).
