RIPPLY2 is expressed in the rostral portions of prospective somites S0 and S-1 (inferred from mouse embryos) where its expression is directly activated by MESP2 (inferred from mouse homologs). S0 is the next forming somite and S-1 is the region of paraxial mesoderm that will form a somite after S0. In the S0 and S-1 region, unsegmented, immature mesoderm transitions to segmented, differentiating somites.
