In the zygote before and during zygotic genome activation, endogenous small interfering RNAs (endosiRNAs) are produced from double-stranded RNAs formed by gene-specific mRNAs and antisense long coding RNAs transcribed from the same locus (inferred from mouse zygotes). These endosiRNAs are presumed to be produced by the ribonuclease III-like endoribonuclease activity of DICER1.
