The DUXB gene is transcribed to yield mRNA which is translated to yield protein. DUXB is both maternally expressed and activated in the embryo at the 4-cell stage and later (Tohonen et al. 2015). DUX4 (Hendrickson et al. 2017) and TPRX1 and TPRX2 (Zou et al. 2022) directly activate expression of DUXB in the embryo. DUXB is a double homeobox transcription factor.
