Delta-like 3 (DLL3) is a divergent Delta-like gene that encodes an inhibitory ligand of NOTCH. DLL3 is expressed in the primitive streak and the entire mesoderm, then becomes restricted to the paraxial mesoderm at the late primitive streak stage.(inferred from the mouse homolog). A mutation in DLL3 can disrupt somitogenesis and cause severe rib and vertebral deformities (inferred from the mouse pudgy mutant).
