Based on studies in mouse (Kim et al. 2010; Weng et al. 2018) and rat (Brigidi et al. 2019) model systems, NPAS4 binds to consensus binding motifs in the promoter and enhancer regions of the PLK2 gene. In primary cultures of rat neurons Npas4 and its heterodimerization partners Arnt and Arnt2 also bind to the regulatory sequences in the Plk2 gene locus (Brigidi et al. 2019).
