The transcriptional repressor REST binds the first intron and, to a lesser extent, the promoter regions of the NPAS4 gene in both human kidney cell line HEK293T and mouse embryonic stem cells to repress NPAS4 gene transcription in non-neuronal cells (Bersten et al. 2014).
