The HAND1 (eHAND) gene is transcribed to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield HAND1 protein (Anderson et al. 2018). HAND1 is expressed in the left ventricle during cardiogenesis. NKX2-5 binds the HAND1 gene and activates transcription (Anderson et al. 2018). GATA4 also binds and activates HAND1 (inferred from mouse homologs).
