Transcription regulator protein BACH1, the negative regulator of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NFE2L2), competes with NFE2L2 for binding to antioxidant response elements (ARE). Redox regulation of BACH1 is an alternative mechanism to induce multiple ARE-governed genes. BACH1 exits the nucleus within 1–2 h upon antioxidant treatment, mediated via tyrosine-483 phosphorylation by an unknown kinase (Ishikawa et al, 2005; Kaspar and Jaiswal, 2010).
