Glycosylated nsp3 (papain-like protease) of SARS-CoV-2 cleaves the N-proximal polyprotein regions at three sites. Polyprotein cleavage is essential for generation of the nsp1-4 viral proteins, and therefore essential for virus replication (Swaim et al, 2020).
